Why wouldn't I just text someone from my own phone?

The important thing for you is that you are effectively communicating with people. If you don't mind sharing your personal phone number, have no need to share your messages with your team, and the features within basic texting are all you need, then you can absolutely just text them yourself. Where we provide value is in those spots where basic texting isn't enough.

Do you support call forwarding?

We do! We can support voice in addition to texting in various ways. One of the common routes is for us to assign another phone number to receive any calls to your Rather Text phone number. People will not see the phone number where the call gets forwarded to, so it stays nice and private.

How does "bringing my own number" work?

You'll provide basic phone provider information, such as name, address, and phone number that you'd like us to text-enable for you. This should be a landline and not a mobile phone that already has texting capabilities, otherwise texts for your mobile phone will start to go through Rather Text and not directly to your phone's messages.

Your voice phone calls and all other functionality will stay as it is with your current phone provider - we will only become your provider for sending and receiving SMS text messages from your landline number. Once we verify that your number can be text-enabled, you'll receive an email from our service partner asking you to sign a letter of authorization confirming you're the current owner of the phone account.

You'll receive a phone call from our service partner asking for a code, which we'll provide you. The whole process can be completed in as little as 10 minutes but can take longer depending whether the process is automated or manually completed on your phone provider's end to approve us as your SMS host.

Instead of free trials where you get your new phone number (or bring your own) and account, we give free access to the demo version of our website. There is no payment information required and you'll be able to get a great feel for what our product is.

How will I add other users to Rather Text?

It's as simple as entering their email address and selecting which user role they should have. Keep in mind if you add additional "Admin" users, they'll have the same level of access as you including the ability to remove users (including you) or change you from an "Admin" to "Standard" role.

What's the difference between an Admin and Standard user role?

The Standard role is able to see all conversations, contacts, and other users within the organization. They are also able to add new conversations and contacts. They cannot add new users or change user roles for the organization. They also cannot edit the organization name.

The Admin role has access to everything the Standard role does along with the ability to add & remove other users, change user roles, change the organization name and will see subscription information (current plan and last 4 digits of current card on file).

Can I send the same message to a bunch of contacts at once?

Yes! Send a message to one person or as many others as you want. You can group contacts together by tag or hand select who all the recipients are. Just make sure to capture consent from your contacts before sending them messages.

Can my team send and receive pictures via Rather Text?

We currently support receiving pictures and videos, but not sending them out just yet. Stay tuned for that!

Can my team send and receive emojis via Rather Text?

You will receive emojis sent by your contacts and they'll be displayed as best we can - meaning most will match what was sent by your contact. There aren't established standards for text messaging emojis just yet (there's no ADA-standard for referencing emojis for the visually-impaired, for example) but they can be effective to include in your messages - you can't be sure what you send is what your recipient will receive on their device.

What countries is your service available in?

We are a U.S. based company and we support phone numbers in the U.S. and Canada.
